Our 2 week stay at Riverside

Unread post by element »

We just returned home from our two week stay at Riverside. It was our first time there and we were very pleased. April 25, 2010 through May 9th. We made all arrangements through Disney including all tickets and a dining plan. We stayed in lodge 18, Alligator Bayou, room 1829 just a hop away from one of the quiet pools. Our party consisted of 3 adults and we never felt the rooms to be cramped. My mothers expression was classic when we first opened the door to our room, We live in a contemporary style house and she was a bit shocked with the rustic theme, but she warmed up to it and we joked about a "rustic look" the whole trip.

We had researched the moderate resorts and picked Riverside due to the fact the reviews were very positive. Making reservations was a breeze through Disney and the cast members were so informative. 4 days before our arrival, we spoke to a cast member about a our preferences in location of our room. We could not be more happy with their selection. We were very pleased with the food served at the Mill building and enjoyed tranquil aspects of Riverside. We extensively used the boat to Downtown Disney and never waited too long for a boat. Some captains of the boats gave guided tours and some just played the music through the speakers.

Pros:
1. Resort was excellent.
2. Boat was a nice alternative to buses.
3. Very quiet resort compared to others we visited. (We met my sister and family down at Pop Century, the second week. Riverside is an oasis in comparison to Pop Century)
4. Food court was great.
5. Room was always clean and everything functioned.
6. Loved the controlled lush landscape.
7. Wild life is everywhere. Ducks, rabbits, lizards, cranes..etc. (kids loved seeing the wild life)
8. Quiet pool was refreshing and always clean, never more than 10 people used it.

Cons: (Nothing with Riverside)
1. Bus service was occasionally slow and seemed there were more buses available for other resorts than we saw for Port Orleans or Riverside.
2. Returning from a park via a bus was always different. Sometimes we would go directly to the South station at the main building, other nights we would have to stop at North, East and West stations before hitting the South station. Majority of guests use the South Station, so it seemed odd, but I assume there was some reason.

In conclusion, we had a great time and recommend Port Orleans Riverside as a great place to stay and enjoy Walt Disney World.
