French Quarter "Doubloon Lagoon" maintenance work from 9 Jan

Unread post by The Sassagoula Sentinel »

I've just had official confirmation that the French Quarter "Doubloon Lagoon" swimming pool and the new children's Aquatic Play Area will both be closed for routine maintenance next week, starting on Monday 9th January for approximately five days. Given that this sort of work requires significant advanced planning, and that the dates had already been included in recent press/travel agent information, it seems strange that paying guests are only now being informed about it.

The following communication will be provided in-room for guests staying at the resort:
Starting Monday 1/9/17 French Quarter Doubloon Lagoon Pool and Aquatic Play Area will be closed for cleaning and Maintenance. The French Quarter hot tub will remain open throughout the refurbishment. During this time Guests may see or hear work in progress.

We invite French Quarter Guests to make a splash at the Ol’ Man Island Pool, or any of the five leisure pools, located throughout Disney’s Port Orleans Resort. Recreation activities will also be available in the courtyard near the lobby at Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter.

For Guests’ convenience the following transportation options will be available during the closure:
  • Golf Cart Transportation, from 10:00am-8:00pm, at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter will be located in the courtyard near the Resort Lobby and at Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside at the leisure pool between Buildings 80 and 85.
  • Internal Bus transportation is available to Disney’s Port Orleans – Riverside during pool operating hours.
  • Boat transportation to Disney Port Orleans – Riverside operates from 10:00am-4:00pm.

We appreciate your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience. Should you have any questions or need additional assistance, our Front Desk Cast Members will be happy to assist you.
Update 14 Jan: The Doubloon Lagoon swimming pool and Aquatic Play Area are now open again. The water-slide will remain closed for a while longer while work on it is completed.

The pool hours are currently 10am-8pm, and the Mardi Grogs pool bar will be open from noon until 5pm (hours may be adjusted at bartender's discretion).

We are coming Feb 26- March 6th..do you know what pool hours would be then? Trying to plan our stay, and thought we would come back to a swim and pool bar drink before bed...but not when the pool closes at 8:00 and the bar by 5:00...a little disappointed..

Pool hours are not released in advance (in fact I often only find out after it has happened). I would expect that by then the hours will be 8pm or 9pm closing, perhaps going up to 10pm by Easter? Last March the pool was closing at 10pm, but then Jan/Feb was 9pm so it's hard to base anything on 2016 hours.

There seem to have been cutbacks all round this year to be honest, all departments have had budgetary reductions and operating hours would be an obvious way to achieve that. The pool bar is another example, there is only one cast member assigned at the moment, and although they are allowed to keep the bar open longer if demand requires it, I guess that would extend their shift without a break.
