The Walt Disney World theme parks, water parks and other entertainment areas can attract hundreds of thousands of visitors per day, and moving them around the property efficiently is a major logistical challenge. While you can drive your own car if you prefer, Disney run a fleet of more than 160 buses which are dedicated solely to ferrying you to and from the parks. The Bus Transportation page gives you all the information you’ll need as to where and when to catch the buses, plus tips on avoiding the worst of the crowds.
One of the unique features of the Port Orleans resort is the free rivercruise ferry service which transports guests along the 2½ mile Sassagoula River between the hotels and the Downtown Disney/Pleasure Island shopping, dining and entertainment district. The twenty minute boat trip is a very pleasant and relaxing alternative to road transport and shouldn’t be missed. For more information, see the Water Taxi page.
First time visitors to Walt Disney World can sometimes find navigating their way around the parks and resorts a little daunting - after all, the entire site does cover some 47 square miles, larger than many cities! To help you out, the Maps & Directions page includes several detailed downloadable maps of both the overall Walt Disney World area and the Port Orleans area in particular. There are also driving directions from the Orlando airports and links to Virtual Earth satellite images of the Port Orleans resorts.
