POR main pool closure from 8 Jan 2016 for two months

The Port Orleans Riverside main feature pool on Ol' Man Island (including the children's pool and the hot tub) will be closed from 11th January 2016 until 4 March 2016 for maintenance work. This could potentially run a little longer, but those are the most accurate dates I have at present.

All of the five quiet pools at Riverside will remain open, as will the French Quarter "Doubloon Lagoon" pool, which may be used by Riverside guests.

Update 7 Nov: A few people have been asking which sections of Ol' Man Island will still be open during the pool refurbishment work. As far as I can tell at the moment, the closure will be limited to the pool area itself (including the kids' pool, hot tub and Muddy Rivers pool bar). All the through-route walkways, the children's playground, the evening campfire and the fishing hole will remain open. The River Roost Lounge in the main building will open a little earlier in the day to compensate for Muddy Rivers being closed (which is actually quite common during Jan/Feb anyway, when it can get a bit cold for people to sit out by the pool).

Update 22 Nov: Dates for the pool closure now set as 11 January 2016 to 4 March 2016. This could potentially run a little longer, but those are the most accurate dates I have at present.

I just read this and called WDW direct to confirm as we are staying there in the beginning of March. WDW tells me that they have no scheduled refurbishments for POR for 2016? So I am confused as to where this info is coming from.

I knew about this planned work a couple of months ago, but I was only allowed to release it publicly three months before the start-date (even though Disney accidentally announced it via their Travel Agents website a while ago, although they quickly pulled the information). I can assure you it is correct.

The work was originally scheduled for 2015 but pushed back a year. The CM's directly impacted by this have confirmed the dates as well.

Will they offer kids pool activities at any of the quiet pools during the afternoon? Or will all activities be at French Quarter. How long a walk is that from the Royal room buildings? Thanks so much for the help! Just found this site and I love it!! :D

It's not far from the Royal rooms. They are the right end of Riverside to be near the FQ pool. That said I've never walked it in swimming gear, so it might be a bit far wearing that.

I doubt they would offer the loud music and noisy kids' games at the quiet pools because, well, they're meant to be quiet. :) But you never know. I'd think it would be more likely that they will offer alternative kids activities near the main lobby area.

Andre,

Any word on if they will provide shuttle service to the FQ pool, as they did to Riverside when the FQ pool was being refurbished?

I would be very surprised if they didn't offer something like that.

Any idea when WDW will official announce this on their site?

No idea sorry, they may not even bother as there are lots of alternative pools available, they seem more focussed on mentioning park attraction closures rather than resort work.

The other pools are fine, but they don't have things like the water-slide, hot tub, kids' paddling pool and day-time poolside games. From the Royal Rooms you'd use the quiet pool between Oak Manor and Parterre Place:

See http://www.portorleans.org/gallery-POR-MB.php for lots more pics.

From the Royal Rooms it's not that long a walk over to the French Quarter pool either, so you may want to give that a try too.

We made far more use of the quiet pools to be honest. Our kids preferred it that way. The main pool was too noisy for them in the afternoons and they made some friends bobbing about in the one near the room too. However, I'm thinking they may not be so quiet if they are the only option. I think for 3 and 6, even though you don't have the slide they'll still enjoy spending down time with you in one of the other pools :)
