Official - 'Royal Rooms' coming to Port Orleans Riverside!

Unread post by The Sassagoula Sentinel »

The Disney Parks Blog has just confirmed that the much anticipated 'Royal' themed rooms will be coming to Port Orleans Riverside during the upcoming refurbishment. One-quarter of the resort's room capacity will be given over to the new themed rooms.
Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Disney Parks Social Media Manager wrote: Exciting enhancements also are taking place over at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort, with 512 Royal Guest Rooms planned to debut by March 2012. The story behind these lush rooms is that Princess Tiana (“The Princess and The Frog”) invited some of her royal pals – Belle (“Beauty and the Beast”), Jasmine (“Aladdin”) and more – for a vacation getaway. Princes and princesses of all ages can enjoy their luxurious lodging quarters, which will include ornate beds that feature headboards with fiber-optic special effects, and gold and crystal accents. Guests also can enjoy artwork and special mementos left by Tiana’s royal friends.

Since The Princess and the Frog is set in New Orleans, Port Orleans Riverside was deemed a natural fit for this story - although I'm not quite sure why French Quarter was not regarded as an even more obvious fit.

During a guest’s stay, they will discover special mementos left by Tiana’s royal friends from classic Disney animated films such as Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, etc. For example, bathroom faucets are in the shape of Aladdin’s lamp and the luggage bench is in the shape of Sultan the dog that turns into a bench from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

During creative development of these Storybook Rooms, Disney characters and storylines were chosen that would remain “evergreen” and maintain their relevance over time. Attributes to the room include:
  • Ornately decorated beds that include headboards with fiber optic special effects and gold and crystal accents.
  • Custom bed coverings and drapes that create a more luxurious “royal” experience.
  • Unique, in-room artwork featuring Tiana and her royal visitors.
Guests will be able to begin booking this new category of 'Specialty Rooms' mid-summer 2011 for visits commencing March 2012 by visiting waltdisneyworld.com or calling the Disney Reservation Center on 407-939-7429. No indication has been given as to how much these rooms will cost compared to standard rooms, but this is Disney so you know there will be a premium!

The concept art does looks somewhat scaled back from the original version that was mooted in a guest survey back in August 2010. Note the lack of ceiling detail, less ornate bedheads, missing shelf, no coats-of-arms & ornamental swords beside the curtains, etc. when compared to the older artwork show below:

Interesting. Guess this room may be popular with all the princesses! The Pirate rooms sure seem to be popular at CBR. I don't like that they took out the ceiling fans, and the shelf with the pegs underneath. Can't tell from pic if the bench is still there. We sure used that corner, great additional storage. Esp the shelf & pegs.
