More Pool Area Construction Updates from 14 February

Unread post by The Sassagoula Sentinel »

On Riverside's Ol' Man Island, new lighting poles have been added (still to be painted) and metal support posts for the access gates have been installed across the pathways. It is still unclear whether the rest of the perimeter barrier will be tastefully ‘in tune’ with the wooden post, slat and rope designs around the rest of Everett Peace’s reclusive little island, or whether Disney will take the easier option and just use metal railings (which incidentally do work very well with the wrought ironwork theming over at French Quarter):

Skimming of the inside of the Ol' Man Island pool now seems mostly complete and they have started tiling the upper edges. The new tiles appear to be a generic mottled brown/beige rather than the whimsical bayou foliage and wildlife design that was there previously:

Meanwhile, over at French Quarter's Doubloon Lagoon, more concrete has been laid at the new children's water play area, and some of the heavier equipment has been removed now. It also looks like they have fitted the gratings over the edge drainage channel. Landscaping and laying of the soft rubberised flooring has not yet been started:

We are set to arrive on the 23rd. Are either the French quarter or ol' man island pools going to be open?

The main French Quarter pool is not closed, only the children's water play area (the old paddling pool) is affected.

The main feature pool on Ol' Man Island at Riverside is completely closed (and will be until early March) but there are five other pools around Riverside which remain open.

See www.portorleans.org/rehab.php or the News pages for the latest info.

Ok. Our reservation is for a royal room in riverside and I just found out today about the pool being closed and misunderstood what was going on in the French quarter. Hopefully traveling back and forth isn't too bad, thank you!

No need to travel back and forth to French Quarter to swim (although you can if you want, it's no more than a 10 minute walk or there's a shuttle service too) as there's a very nice pool right next to the royal buildings:

Very nice! I did see that, but the kiddos were excited about the water slide. Hopefully the proximity of this one will keep them content. :) Thank you for the prompt responses!

Yes, for a slide you'll need to head over to French Quarter I'm afraid.

I see the hot tub is pretty small at riverside. Does anyone know if it is always full of kids, or does staff enforce a "adults only" policy.

The hot tub is not intended for younger children, but I've never seen anyone trying to enforce that. So yes, it does get a bit busy at times. They could really do with something bigger, or more than one, to be honest.
