Port Orleans French Quarter “Doubloon Lagoon” pool closure, January-April 2024

Posted Thursday 2nd February 2023, 7:00am (EST) by The Sassagoula Sentinel

Plenty of advanced notice on this one. The main Doubloon Lagoon feature pool at Port Orleans French Quarter will be closed for refurbishment during the first few months of 2024. More specific dates will presumably be made available closer to the commencement of works, but January to April is the overall quoted timeframe.

Guests will still be able to use any of the six pools over at Port Orleans Riverside, which is a ten minute walk away or can be reached using the ferry boat service or shuttle buses. When this sort of work has been undertaken in the past, the resort has always provided a free local shuttle service to get guests to and from the alternate pool.

Update: The pool closed on 22nd January 2024 - including the splash play area, pool bar, and the hot tub (slightly earlier on 17 January). There is currently no specific end date for the work, they are still only saying April.

Any updates will be in the Refurbishments page: https://www.portorleans.org/rehab.php

Hurricane Ian on course to pass directly through Orlando area on Thursday 29th September

Posted Wednesday 28th September 2022, 6:13am (EDT) by The Sassagoula Sentinel

Hurricane Ian is currently on course to make landfall at about 2pm today near Fort Myers on the Florida West Coast, as a life-threatening Category 4 event. The eye will continue to track inland over the next 24 hours getting to Orlando at a similar time tomorrow (Thursday), albeit with significantly reduced intensity due to its time over land. Expect extremely heavy stormy rain and winds, with possible flooding, before and after the eye arrives. Orlando International airport will be closed Wednesday and Thursday, so there will be no arrivals or departures possible by air. The theme parks will also be closed.

If you are staying at Port Orleans or any other resort hotel, please follow local advice and remain in your room if requested. Arrange to have your own stock of food, drink and snacks - meal kits will be made available in advance via the food court even if normal operations might be closed. Have all your electronics fully charged in advance (torch functions can be useful if the power goes out).

Be prepared, and don't make life more difficult than it needs to be for the ride-out crew. Stay safe everyone.

Dixie Landings / Port Orleans Riverside 30th Anniversary

Posted Wednesday 2nd February 2022, 4:44am (EST) by Admin

With the tumultuous events of the past couple of years, the 30th Anniversary of the opening of the original Port Orleans Resort slipped by unheeded - sadly the COVID shutters were down and there was no one around to celebrate at the deserted Port Orleans French Quarter on 17th May last year.

However the world has now started getting back to normal, and the 30th Anniversary of the original Disney's Dixie Landings Resort - now known to all of us as Port Orleans Resort Riverside - is a different matter. Thirty years ago today, on 2nd February 1992, the first rustic lodges of Louisiana-themed Alligator Bayou section opened to the public, marking the beginning of a tradition of welcoming millions of guests to the resort's classic Southern Charms alongside the Sassagoula River. For more details of the resort background, please see our History page.

Although I can't be there in person today, I'd like to pass on my own grateful thanks to the current General Manager John Berko and his whole team for the hard work they put in to keeping the resort running smoothly and looking as picture-perfect as it did on opening day thirty years ago. Thank you everyone, and here's to the next thirty years - let's just hope they run a bit more smoothly than the last two!

Happy Birthday Dixie Landings / Port Orleans Riverside!

Wishing you a Merry and COVID-free Christmas, 2021

Posted Friday 24th December 2021, 7:50pm (EST) by Admin

Well here we are at Christmas-time again, and after another roller coaster of a year at least our magical Port Orleans Resorts were finally able to re-open back in October after what turned out to be a one-and-a-half year closure.

But now the Christmas decorations are up and it's time for some festive fun. Wishing everyone at Port Orleans a wonderful and enjoyable time during this Christmas Holiday week, and hopefully I'll be able to return to see you all myself later in 2022.

Have as Merry a Christmas as is possible under the current circumstances, and let's hope and pray for a better New Year. But then I seem to remember saying that last year too?

Boatwright's Dining Hall to reopen 14th December 2021

Posted Tuesday 23rd November 2021, 6:41pm (EST) by The Sassagoula Sentinel

Even though Port Orleans Resort Riverside reopened to guests on 14th October after an 18 month closure, the resort's table-service restaurant remained closed. The only option for hungry guests returning from a day at the parks was the quick service Riverside Mill food court. We were originally told that Boatwright's Dining Hall may not reopen until 2022, but it has today been revealed that the cajun-themed location will actually be opening on 14th December, just in time for the busy Christmas period. Nothing has been released in terms of booking availability as yet, but hopefully that will be made available soon.
