Disney Dining Plan
Need to ask a question about the disney dining you mention. It is something we really can't agree on, you mention the savings you made. We really are not huge eaters and have not opted for the plan yet as we are worried it may be a waste of money and we would feel too restricted. Can you point out some of the major benefits, we are in Disney, staying at POR for 12 days, but do intend doing at least two days off site (probably visiting Universal). We may not want to get Table Service every evening, we also are not 100% certain if you get breakfast, lunch and dinner or if it's more snack based with one table service meal, can you help us out please?
Re: Disney Dining Plan
I guess this depends on whether you would be getting the plan for free or not, and also what other discounts you could get INSTEAD of the dining plan (remember that the dining plan requires you to pay rack-rate for the room, and must include at least a one-day entrance ticket each). Maybe if you are there for 12 days you'd find it cheaper to get an Annual Pass and then get a discounted room rate, plus perhaps buy a Tables in Wonderland card which gets you discounted prices on whatever meals you do actually decide to have?
We aren't massive eaters either, and are often much happier getting snacks and counter service rather than having a full sit-down meal every day (we tend to try to do that every other day). As you say, if you are on the full Plan then you feel obliged to eat to get your 'value' from it, and it's a false economy if you wouldn't have eaten a table-service meal every day. Plus, remember you need to pay the tip on each meal, which again you wouldn't have had to if you just went counter-service. To be honest, you have to eat a lot of food for it to really pay for itself.
By the way, there is another plan which gives two counter-service meals each day, but I'd suggest for more info you check out one of the big Disney forums, such as www.thedibb.co.uk in the UK or www.disboards.com in the US.
