Scat Cat’s Club - Lounge

Discover the Port Orleans Backstory...

Just off the Port Orleans French Quarter main lobby you are invited to relax in the jazzy Scat Cat’s Club – Lounge. Memorabilia from the great jazz musicians lines the walls, setting the tone for a laid-back evening. You can take in your favourite cocktail or specialty drink and enjoy Scat Cat’s snacks and appetizers.

When the ‘Hurricane’ cocktail is mentioned, New Orleans should come to mind. The Hurricane originated in New Orleans during World War II because of the whiskey shortage; rum was plentiful though, and it became the platform for a great number of fun and unique combinations. The lounge’s special Hurricanes are poured into a hurricane lamp shaded glass, which distinguishes the presentation, while tickling the palate with bountiful flavours.

On Tuesday 1st October 2019, Scat Cat’s re-opened as a newly re-imagined two-location venue, split between this larger bar/lounge in the space that originally used to be occupied by Bonfamille's table-service restaurant, and a new Café area serving coffees and beignets adjacent to the main Lobby (where the original lounge/bar was located).

Currently the “Jazz Fusion Band” performs several half-hour sets on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, the first set commencing at 7:30pm.

Tom Casey performed at Scat Cat’s from 19 July 2013 until the end of March 2015, playing a mixture of lounge classics and guest requests. Prior to that, French Quarter’s long-time resident musician was the multi-talented saxophonist and vocalist Elliot Dyson who was let go at the end of May 2013 due to an extended closure during lobby refurbishment work. Another singer named Andy Burr had a semi-regular slot for a few months too.

More recently you would have found Jason Thomas and Billy Varnes, two members of the fabulous Off Kilter rock band which used to perform in Epcot’s Canada pavilion, sometimes joined by Mulch, Sweat & Shears’ Greg Hayworth. Sadly Jason and Billy’s four-year tenure at Scat Cat’s Club came to an end on Sunday 29 September 2019 with the transition to the new split-location venue. This is a real shame as the boys had worked hard to build up a great reputation and a loyal following. Good luck with your next gig, wherever that may be, you will be sadly missed at the Port.

The featured music for the new Scat Cat’s Club Lounge was initially a four or five piece jazz band with a singer, playing five nights a week (Thursday – Monday) but from early 2020 you could experience a jazz quartet called “Big Ezee Swag” three nights a week. Currently the evening entertainment is provided the the Jazz Fusion Quartet, playing four nights a week (Thursday-Sunday).
