Transportation for teens to MK from POR

Unread post by TXmomof4 »

Hi,
I have two teens 13 & 15 that will have to make their way on their own from POR to MK to meet myself and younger dd there. My daughter really wants earliest breakfast at CRT, boys dont want to crack of dawn to eat there and would rather have a bit more sleep. They are very good kids, just have never ridden a bus in many years :) and we havent been to WDW in FL for long long time.
It will be the second day we are there and the first day we will use rental car to get around so they will not know their way very well. I was thinking maybe I should have them call mears at the front lobby just program it into the kids cellphone, will they have trouble getting a cab as young teens? Do cabs normally wait there for fares? WWYD? Hope this makes sense. The choice is bus or cab. If you take a cab to MK, where do they let you out?

Thank you!!

To be honest, I'd let them get the bus, it's really, really easy. They can check with the driver to make 100% sure that it's going to the right place (athough it does say the destination on the bus anyway). The main bus depot is right outside the hotel, just next to the door to the shop, so they should be fine. At the other end, the Magic Kingdom is kinda difficult to miss, LOL. Maybe send them on the bus back to the hotel on your first day, while you take the car, just so they are familiar with how it all works?

A taxi would drop them off at the TTC anyway, so they'd still need to get a boat or monorail to the Magic Kingdom, so you've really gained nothing.

Oh, and make sure they remember their park tickets if they are meeting you inside.

A.

We used the Disney Transportation throughout our entire trip and all I can say is great things about it. It was easy, fast and saved us a lot of money.
There is no need to rent a car, just relax and enjoy your stay. The longest we had to wait for a bus was 15 minutes, most of the time they were not crowded,
and when they were it was at park closing.

Thank you
Im driving there to use up rental car points, so thats why we'll have the car. Were the 1st week of dec which is completely sold out at POR, the resort is booked to capacity so thats why I was thinking they might be better off in the taxi. But if taxi just drops you at TTC anyway then I think we might as well save the little cash and have them just do that.
Good point about the tickets. I will have to get lanyards or something. We will have those KTTW kind so just occured to me to make sure they cant charge to the room. ;) I am Very excited about the trip here.
We went to Dixie Landings several times with our college age son & when the teens were lil ones. I was just looking through the old scrapbooks, those two teens were in a double stroller then.
 The last FL WDW trip we tried, # 2 son broke out in chicken pox at MGM, someone took all our underwear (except what we had on) from the dryer at the laundryroom, and oldest very very nearsighted son snapped his only pair of glasses in half so excited to see a Michael Jordan promotion thing was when that cartoon movie came out. I have high hopes for this trip. Thank you for the advice!!
