Dealing with baggage on departure day...

Unread post by kmdisney »

I have lined up a car service to pick us up at MCO on our arrival date and to also return us to MCO on our departure date.

Since we are not using DME and our flight does not leave until after 5:00 p.m., can we still have the hotel hold our luggage for us while we enjoy the parks on our last day?

Absolutely, just leave your bags with Bell Services until you're ready to leave for the airport. You can also do this on arrival if your room is not yet ready, by the way.

They will deliver to and collect from your room - just remember that you need to be present when they pick up, don't just leave your bags in the room and head off to the parks before they've given you a receipt.

Its great flying with Virgin from the UK.

We always do Downtown Disney checkin, which means we get rid of all our luggage in the morning and have the rest of the day to ourselves.

We used the Virgin DTD checkin a couple of times but had never been overly impressed with it, but after a really bad experience a year ago (an hour-long wait at 11am in the Florida heat, very inefficient staff passing people back and forth from one line to another, plus the insult of their not waiving the $40 fee for this 'convenient' service!) we've avoided it ever since.

Now I do online checkin the day before we leave, pack the bags in the back of the car (darkened glass windows) and head off to a park instead of driving all the way over to DTD only to wait for another hour there. When we get to the airport, we simply head for the bag-drop line (which has no-one at all waiting at it when we arrived this year, although the main line was massive). Overall we reckon doing it that way must have saved us the best part of two hours park-time (and $40 too).

Guess you were unlucky then.

We only ever wait for a maximum of 30 mins. We dont pay a penny for the service as we always book our entire holiday through Virgin and of course we are in the Frequent Club.

They have even let us get away with over weight bags in the past with no charge.

I would never do anything else, simply as its out of site out of mind.

Also last time we had our hire car broken into in Disney itself, so there is no chance of me leaving all our clothes and masses of new clothes and electrical purchases in a car all day.
