transport

Unread post by paula »

Hello we are planning visit POFQ in August. We have not hired a car while there but intend to use disney buses to get about to the parks. How would we get to attractions outside of WDW? Are there buses? Does WDW arrange car hire for a couple of days or how expensive would taxis be to International Drive? I look forward to hearing your views. Many thanks

You can get low-cost public transport from Disney to other locations in Orlando, but it's not very convenient. From memory, you'd get the number 50 Lynx bux from the Transportation & Ticket Center to International Drive, and then change and take the I-Trolley service to get to the various parks along I-Drive. (And remember that the TTC itself is not the easiest place to access from the Disney resort hotels; you'd need to get a bus to the Magic Kingdom first and then take the ferry or monorail back to the TTC)

Taxi would be an easier option, but it can work out pricey if you do several return trips.

It's also very easy to hire a car right within WDW for a few days, I've done it myself several times. There's one rental location at the Car Care Center (by the Hess gas station near to the TTC), and several of the major companies (Dollar, Alamo, etc) have rental locations at the hotels in the Buena Vista Hotel Plaza (all of which are just a short walk from the Downtown Disney bus depot or ferry dock). There is also another rental company that rents from the Swan/Dolphin hotel. That'd probably be your best and most flexible option to be honest, as you could take other local trips out from WDW while you've got the car. They may even be able to arrange to pick you up from your hotel if you ask them.

Thanks for that , I think that we will probably get a car for a few days. Thanks for the info, don't know where else I would have found such a quick and useful response.

Yes, I think car is a good choice. Renting from one of the companies based at the hotel plaza area between Downtown Disney and Crossroads (such as Dollar who work from the Regal Sun Resort) is quick and easy and it gives you a lot more flexibility for those days that you've got the car. Get Port Orleans to issue you a parking permit, and remember that's good for all of the Disney theme-park parking lots too.
