When to contact the resort to make a request
I have seen in numerous places where people have commented that they have "faxed a request", or "called the resort to make a request" prior to their arrival. Is there a protocol or etiquette to this practice and when is it appropriate to contact them?
I will be travelling to the POR at the end of August and, while pretty well recovered from significant leg surgery at the beginning of the year, would appreciate a room closer to the main building so the request would be centered on that.

Re: When to contact the resort to make a request
First, have a look at the Room Requests section in the FAQ which gives some general tips on making room requests.
It does sound like your request is probably not severe enough to put it through in advance as a medical special needs requirement, which can be done much earlier, so I'd suggest faxing sometime around the 3-4 days region, or phoning the resort 1-2 days out and asking to speak to the on-site room allocators. Remember that general requests are never guaranteed though, but they'll usually try their best to help.
Don't forget that you can always have a look at the location you've been assigned on a map when you're at the front desk (before they print your room keycards) and if you're not happy ask them to look again. If they can't find something suitable that's ready for you immediately, and if you're happy to go off and do something else in the meantime, there may be other rooms which will be vacant but have not yet been cleaned that you could ask them to check for (they might need to get a backroom person out to do this, as the front desk staff sometimes have trouble doing that for some reason).
Good luck, and maybe see you there! (we check out 26th Aug).
